Triodle

Privacy & cookies

Last updated: 3 November 2026

You can play without an account, and there's nothing to sign up for. Triodle doesn't ask for your name or email, and doesn't show ads. Google Analytics runs only if you accept it when Triodle asks.

Who is responsible?

Triodle is operated independently by an individual based in the Netherlands, who also runs Goatle. For privacy questions and requests, contact support@goatle.io. In this notice, “we” means Triodle's operator, responsible for personal data handled through this website.

What happens when you play?

Your browser asks our server for the day's three words and checks your guesses itself. Your guesses aren't sent to us.

When you finish the day's game, your browser sends the game date, the version of that day's words, whether you solved each word and how many guesses it took, and a random identifier your browser made for that day's game. We store these with the time the game was finished, to see how hard each day's words were. The identifier is new each day, isn't linked to a name, email or account, and only stops the same game from being counted twice.

After finishing, you can optionally rate the day's words from 1 to 5. We store the rating, the game date, the update time and that day's random identifier. Changing your rating updates the same vote. Results and ratings are kept as anonymous daily statistics, visible only to the operator.

Share copies your result to your clipboard, or opens your device's share menu, only when you choose it. Triodle doesn't post it anywhere; the service you share it with handles it under its own policy.

Cloudflare hosts and delivers Triodle. Requests pass through its systems, which process technical information such as your IP address, request details, browser information and traffic or security data to deliver and protect the service. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Cookies and local storage

These are the storage items Triodle uses:

triodle:game · local storage
Saves the day's game on this device (your guesses, which round you're on, your rating) and its random identifier, so you can pick up where you left off after a refresh. Replaced when you start a new day's game.
triodle:timer · local storage
Keeps the time left on the current guess, so a refresh doesn't reset the clock.
triodle:theme · local storage
Remembers whether you chose light or dark mode.
triodle:seenHelp · local storage
Remembers that you've seen How to play, so it doesn't open on every visit.
triodle:analytics · local storage
Remembers whether you accepted or declined Google Analytics, so Triodle doesn't ask again. Choose Cookie choice under How to play to change it.
_ga, _ga_8MGC09QRLF · cookies
Set by Google Analytics only after you accept, to tell visits and returning visitors apart. They last up to 2 years and are removed if you change your choice to “No thanks”.

Local storage stays in your browser, isn't sent to our server and has no automatic expiry. You can remove all of it by clearing this site's data in your browser. Blocking storage may stop your game or settings from being remembered.

Google Analytics (optional)

If you choose Accept when Triodle asks, it loads Google Analytics to count visits and see, in aggregate, which pages are used, which sites send visitors, and roughly which country and type of device they come from. Google receives your IP address with each request, but Google Analytics 4 doesn't store it. We don't send Google your guesses, results or ratings. If you choose No thanks, or make no choice, the Analytics script isn't loaded at all, and the game works the same. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie choice under How to play. Google processes this data under its Privacy Policy and describes it in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Advertising

Triodle doesn't show ads at the moment. If we add them, we'll update this notice before they start, name the ad provider and its partners, and list the cookies they use. In the EU and UK, you'll be asked for your choices before any cookies or identifiers are used for ads.

Security and contact

The site's admin page, used only by the operator, records the IP addresses of sign-in attempts for a short time window to block password guessing. Players never sign in.

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you include. Cloudflare forwards mail sent to this address to a Gmail mailbox, so Cloudflare and Google also process those messages. We keep correspondence for as long as it takes to handle your request and any follow-up, or longer where a legal obligation or dispute requires it.

Why we process information

We rely on legitimate interests to deliver a reliable game, understand how it's played, prevent abuse and respond to enquiries. Google Analytics relies on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Where required, legal obligations provide a separate basis.

Sharing, transfers and retention

Recipients are Cloudflare, for hosting and security, and Google, for Analytics if you accept it and when you email us. We don't sell your information. We may disclose information if legally required or necessary to address abuse or legal claims.

Cloudflare and Google operate internationally, including outside the European Economic Area. Cloudflare describes its safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses, in its Data Processing Addendum; Google describes its transfer safeguards in its privacy policy.

Cloudflare's retention of hosting records depends on the service and security purpose, as described in its policy. Google Analytics keeps visit-level data for its configured retention period, after which only aggregate reports remain. Anonymous results and ratings are kept as daily statistics. We use HTTPS throughout. No online service can guarantee complete security.

Your rights

Depending on the applicable conditions, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your personal data, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing. Email support@goatle.io. We may need proportionate identity verification and normally respond within one month.

Your game saves stay in your browser, so you can delete them through its site-data settings; we can't retrieve them remotely. You can complain to the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens or your local supervisory authority. Triodle makes no automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.

Children and changes to this notice

Playing requires no signup. Parents or guardians can contact us about a child's information.

We'll update the date above when this notice changes and give appropriate notice of material changes. If a new purpose needs your consent, we'll ask before starting it.
